Completion of demining and area of cleared lands
According to Vitaliy Kim, approximately 600 thousand hectares of agricultural land have been cleared in Mykolaiv region, including even the most complex and dangerous areas. This allows farmers to plan the sowing campaign across almost the entire territory of the region.
“Regarding demining, almost all fields have been cleared of mines, about 600 thousand hectares, even in the most challenging areas,” he said.
Weather risks for the harvest and optimistic forecasts
Despite the positive progress in demining, farmers in the region are facing new challenges. The head of the regional military administration noted that there is a possibility of flooding in some areas due to floods caused by a snowy and wet winter. In addition, the risk of spring frosts remains, which could affect the emergence of winter crops.
Vitaliy Kim emphasized that despite these two factors, the agricultural sector of Mykolaiv region remains optimistic. Thanks to favorable weather conditions this year, the area of crops in the region has increased by 5% compared to previous seasons.
The head of the region stressed the importance of the current situation for local farmers, as the previous two seasons were extremely challenging due to a number of unfavorable circumstances.
