Apple Season in Ukraine Ends Earlier: Experts’ Predictions

This year, the apple export season in Ukraine may end earlier than usual, specifically by the end of April or at the latest by the end of May. This will happen if, by that time, the local market does not absorb all the remaining products stored in warehouses.

This information was provided by Alexander Nosov, the head of Alma Fruit, in a market review published in the magazine “Horticulture in Ukrainian.” The expert believes that by the end of May or the beginning of June, imported cheap Polish apple varieties, such as Aydared, Jonagold, and others, may appear in Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, as of the end of February, about 10-15% of export-quality apples remained in the warehouses of Ukrainian farms from the volume that was stored at the beginning of the season.

“And now, as well as in the future, our producers who grow apples should understand that they are not competitors to each other, but rather act as a single country,” said the expert. “Therefore, they need to communicate more with each other and not open all warehouses simultaneously, but do so more coordinated, at least by regions, in order not to depress prices in the local market.”
