In the first week of April 2026, a decrease in the volumes of grain cargo transportation through western border railway crossings was observed. This issue was discussed during an online meeting with representatives of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” and participants in the agricultural market on April 9.

Reduction in grain exports through key crossings

Data shows that in April, the volumes of grain transportation through border railway crossings decreased in all directions. The most noticeable decline was recorded in the direction of Poland: the average daily number of grain wagons heading to Poland decreased by 12.2 units and currently stands at 13.3 wagons per day.

Regarding the Ukrainian-Slovak border, the average daily figure is 25.3 wagons of grain, which is 6.2 units less than before. Thus, a significant impact on transportation volumes is also evident here.

Dynamics in the Hungarian and Romanian directions

Hungary continues to lead in the reception of grain cargo from Ukraine: the average daily transfer here is 42.3 wagons per day, although this is also 4.7 units less than in the previous period.

“In April, a decline was demonstrated in the indicators of grain transportation through border crossings with all countries.”

As for the Ukrainian-Romanian railway crossings, no wagons with grain cargo were transferred during the specified period, indicating a complete halt in the export of this type of product in this direction.
