According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, frosts are a typical phenomenon during the transition periods from winter to summer and from summer to winter. A frost is defined as a short-term drop in air temperature or soil surface temperature to 0°C against a background of consistently positive temperatures.
When and Where Can Frosts Occur?
Frosts are most often observed during the night or early morning hours under clear and calm weather conditions. It is under such conditions that intense radiative cooling of the Earth’s surface and the near-surface layer of air occurs.
Frosts can also occur due to general cooling. The most dangerous frosts are of an advective-radiative nature.
Weather Forecast for the Coming Week
Next week, a cooling trend with night frosts is forecasted in Ukraine, which should be taken into account when planning agricultural work.
