The foundation of successful planting is proper soil preparation. Experts recommend preparing the area in advance if possible: adding compost, lightly loosening the soil, and allowing it to settle. If prior soil preparation is not possible, at least treat the area just before planting. Additionally, it is recommended to add phosphorus fertilizers, which promote the development of a strong root system for strawberries.

The timing of planting and the type of seedlings also play a significant role. Seedlings with a closed root system can be planted at any warm time of the year—spring, summer, or autumn. These plants handle transplantation better since their roots are not damaged. For seedlings with an open root system, it is important to leave no more than three leaves in September to reduce moisture evaporation while the root system is still not established. In October, when the sun becomes less active, it is acceptable to leave four to five leaves, as the plant adapts more easily to new conditions.

Planting Technique and Subsequent Care

Before planting, the furrow where the plants will be placed should be moistened. Wet soil promotes quick rooting of the seedlings. There are various planting schemes: you can plant in rows with gaps for rosettes and runners or create multi-row beds. The main requirement is not to bury the crown of the bush too deeply to avoid stressing the plant.

Gardeners emphasize: even in winter, under the snow, the exchange of nutrients between the root and leaves continues, so it is not advisable to completely cut off the greenery.

Before planting, it is recommended to slightly shorten the roots to stimulate the growth of new shoots. After planting, strawberries must be watered, and for better rooting, it is advised to use special rooting agents. This is especially important in autumn, as the time for rooting is limited, and the first frosts can occur quite quickly.

Proper soil preparation, watering, leaf trimming, and the use of rooting agents together ensure the resilience of strawberry bushes and contribute to a good harvest. All these steps help the plants strengthen and confidently survive the winter.
