Barley Prices in Ukraine Rise Due to Weather Conditions and High Demand
In Ukraine, there is an increase in barley prices, which is linked to frosts and unfavorable weather conditions. As a result, farmers are reducing grain supplies, and traders are forced to offer premium prices for prompt shipments of both barley and corn.

Increase in Prices and Demand for Feed Barley
Recent international tenders indicate a high and stable demand for feed barley. In Ukrainian ports, purchase prices have risen to 10,800–11,000 UAH/ton (220–222 USD/ton), and some traders are willing to pay over 11,000 UAH/ton, which is explained by the increase in the dollar exchange rate last week. The rise in prices for feed corn by 5–6 USD/ton to 210–212 USD/ton also supports the value of barley.
“In Ukraine, prices in ports have risen to 10,800-11,000 UAH/ton or 220-222 USD/ton, but some traders offered prices above 11,000 UAH/ton, considering the high dollar exchange rate last week.”
In the new marketing year 2025/26, as of February 1, Ukraine has exported only 1.34 million tons of barley, which is significantly less compared to 2.08 million tons during the same period last year. The export potential is estimated at 1–1.2 million tons.
Situation in the Malting Barley Market and Global Purchases
Prices for malting barley remain stable at 10,600–11,000 UAH/ton with delivery to factories. The market is experiencing a suspension of processing activities due to a shortage of electricity, as well as weak export demand for malt, attributed to strong competition from European producers.
On the global market, Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC purchased about 200,000 tons of feed barley from Western Europe on February 3, with deliveries scheduled for March 1–15, 2026, at a price of around 267–268 USD/ton C&F. The volume of the purchase significantly exceeded the expected 50,000 tons.
The prices at which Algeria made its purchases are comparable to those recorded in tenders in January in Turkey (265 USD/ton C&F) and Jordan (273.5 USD/ton C&F). Thus, a decrease in global demand for barley is not currently observed.
