Brazil Forecasts Record Grain Production in the 2024-2025 Marketing Year

Brazil is expected to see further growth in grain harvests in the 2024-2025 marketing year. This is attributed to an increase in planted areas and improved yields, as indicated by the latest data from the National Supply Company (Conab). According to the most recent forecasts, the country plans to harvest a record 332.9 million tons of grain, which is 35.4 million tons more than last year’s figure and 2.6 million tons more than in April of this year.

Grain Areas and Yields Show Dynamic Growth
The area planted with grain crops in Brazil is estimated to increase by 2.2%, reaching 81.7 million hectares. The yield is expected to be 4,074 kg per hectare, which is 9.5% higher than last year’s result. Specialists are paying particular attention to soybeans, with a harvest estimated at 168.3 million tons — a historically high figure for the country. Soybean harvesting is already 98.5% complete, and the record harvest will contribute to a slight increase in exports: in 2024-2025, Brazil plans to export 106 million tons of this crop to international markets.
Corn, Rice, and Wheat: Positive Production Dynamics
Corn production is also showing growth and is estimated to reach 126.9 million tons, which is 9.9% more compared to last season. The first harvest has already been completed on 77.6% of the area, amounting to 24.7 million tons, while the second harvest has been planted and is expected to yield 99.8 million tons of grain. Domestic corn consumption is expected to reach 89.3 million tons, primarily due to the development of corn ethanol production. With the increase in grain supply within the country, the availability of this crop for processing will rise in the second half of 2025. It is planned to export 34 million tons, while ending stocks will remain at 7.1 million tons.
Rice, which is important for Brazilian consumers, is also showing record production volumes — 12.1 million tons (+14.8% compared to last year). This has been made possible by expanding the planted area to 1.7 million hectares and increasing yield by 7.4% (7,071 kg/ha).
Among winter crops, wheat stands out. According to Conab’s estimates, Brazil will harvest 8.3 million tons of this grain crop in 2025, which is 4.6% more than last year. The planting campaign has already started in the central-west, southeastern regions, and the state of Paraná.
“In its eighth updated crop forecast published on May 15, Conab predicts total grain production of 332.9 million tons in 2024-25, which is 35.4 million tons more than the previous year and 2.6 million tons more than in the April report.”
