Brazil, the world’s largest producer and exporter of soybeans, expects to achieve the highest soybean harvest in history in the 2025/26 marketing year — nearly 178 million tons. This data was released by the government agency Conab in its February report. The record figures are attributed to an increase in average yield and an active harvesting pace in most agricultural regions of the country.

Soybean Yield and Harvest Summary

According to estimates from Conab experts, the average soybean yield in Brazil for the 2025/26 marketing year will be 3,675 kg/ha — this is 3.8% higher than last year and represents a new historical record for the country. As of early February, farmers had already harvested 17.4% of the soybean area, which corresponds to the average multi-year pace. The harvesting progress has been most significant in the state of Mato Grosso, where nearly half of the crops have already been threshed.

Dynamics of Corn Production and Impact of Weather Conditions

At the same time, according to a new report from Conab, the forecast for the production of the second corn harvest (safrinha) has been slightly lowered and currently stands at 109.26 million tons. This is 1.2 million tons less compared to the previous forecast in January and 3.5% lower than last season, when the figure reached 113.22 million tons. The second corn harvest is crucial for the overall production of this crop in Brazil.

The planting of safrinha occurs immediately after the soybean harvest on the same fields. Typically, the export of this corn takes place in the second half of the year, and it competes with American products in external markets. According to Conab, the planting pace largely depends on the amount of rainfall in February, which also affects the speed of soybean harvesting.

In January, the planting pace of the second corn harvest accelerated: by early February, 21.6% of the planned area had already been sown. This corresponds to the average figures of previous years and outpaces the pace of last season, allowing farmers to hope for the completion of planting within favorable agro-climatic timelines.

Despite positive production forecasts, frequent rains in the central and northern regions of Brazil create temporary difficulties in transporting soybeans from the fields. However, this currently does not affect the quality of the grain. China remains the main importer of Brazilian soybeans, primarily using it for animal feed production.
