Carrot Prices in Ukraine Have Increased: Current Dynamics and Reasons for the Price Hike
In Ukraine, after a long period of price stability for carrots, there has been a significant increase in wholesale prices. Since the beginning of October, producers have noted an average price increase of 12%, and currently, carrots are being shipped at 7-13 UAH/kg (equivalent to $0.17-0.31/kg), depending on quality and batch size.

Reasons for the Increase in Carrot Prices
Key market participants attribute the price increase to the activation of trade in this segment. At the same time, most farmers have reduced the supply of high-quality carrots, postponing the bulk of the harvest for storage in hopes of further price increases. The market is currently selling mainly excess stock, which has led to a decrease in the supply volumes of the root vegetable.
“However, despite the price increase, carrots in Ukraine are currently being offered for sale at an average of 54% cheaper than during the same period last year. Market participants do not rule out that the trend of rising prices may be a temporary phenomenon. In their opinion, further price increases may motivate farmers to start selling carrots from storage, which would lead to an increase in supply and, consequently, a decrease in prices.”
Carrot Prices in Ukrainian Supermarkets
According to “Minfin” data, the average price of carrots in the largest retail chains in the country is 12.23 UAH/kg, which is 48 kopecks less compared to September. Price analysis shows that the cost of carrots in supermarkets ranges from 9.89 to 15.90 UAH/kg. As of October 30, the prices in key retail chains are as follows:
- Megamarket – 15.90 UAH/kg;
- “Fora” – 10.90 UAH/kg;
- Auchan – 10.90 UAH/kg;
- Metro – 9.90 UAH/kg;
- “Silpo” – 10.90 UAH/kg;
- Varus – 10.90 UAH/kg;
- Novus – 10.89 UAH/kg;
- ATB – 9.89 UAH/kg.
Despite the current price increase, carrots in Ukraine remain significantly cheaper compared to last year’s figures. Experts predict that the further dynamics will depend on producers’ decisions regarding the volumes of sales from storage and market demand.
