Price Dynamics and Main Influencing Factors
Official statistics show a significant increase in egg prices over the year: according to the State Statistics Service, from April 2024 to April 2025, the price rose by 74.6%. However, in month-to-month terms, there is a decrease of 2.5% compared to the previous month. Before Easter (April 20, 2025), the price of eggs in supermarkets reached 76.4 UAH per dozen, which is 9% higher than in March of the same year.
The price decrease after the holidays is explained by the seasonality of the market. According to an expert from the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club, Maksym Hopka,
“In May, the quantity of products on farms increases, which is a prerequisite for increasing supply in the markets and lowering prices.”
At the same time, the market is affected by high costs for feed and energy resources, so significant price reductions have not yet occurred. Analysts predict that if there are no sharp changes in feed and energy prices, the cost of eggs will gradually decrease further.
In European countries, the situation also remains tense. According to Euronews, in March 2025, egg prices in the EU were 6.7% higher than in March 2024. The most significant increases were recorded in the Czech Republic (over 46%), Slovakia (about 30%), and Hungary (26%). Meanwhile, in several countries, prices have decreased: in the Netherlands – by 3.6%, Luxembourg – by 3.2%, Greece – by 2.0%.
