China Forecasts Growth in Garlic Exports by 2025

Garlic producers in China are expecting a significant harvest despite unfavorable weather conditions in the spring. According to reports, Yao Changfen, the CEO of Onedayone Group China, stated that despite serious climate fluctuations, garlic, being a cold-resistant crop, has suffered little. The snowfall protected the garlic sprouts and improved soil moisture, creating favorable conditions for a high yield this year.

“As long as there are no unexpected weather calamities, we are confident in the production and quality of garlic in 2025,” noted Yao Changfen.
According to the latest data, the area planted with garlic in China in 2024 was approximately 790,000 hectares, with a forecast for slight growth in 2025. Although early stocks were lower than in previous years, the new harvest promises to be significantly more productive.
With the benefits of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) coming into effect, garlic exports from China to member countries are likely to increase. In 2024, exports of this crop reached 2.62 million tons, a record high in eight years and 15.96% more than the previous year.
The main export markets are Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the USA. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, the wholesale price of garlic in domestic markets ranged from 11 to 12 yuan ($1.5-1.6) per kilogram from October 2024 to March 2025. With the expected arrival of the new harvest, prices are likely to decrease.
