China has once again demonstrated its leading position in ensuring global food security by significantly increasing grain harvests in 2025. According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the grain harvest reached 715 million tons, setting a new historical record for the country.

Despite the instability of global markets, the Chinese government confidently reports record achievements in the agricultural sector. This result makes the country more independent from external risks and strengthens its economic resilience in challenging geopolitical conditions.

Corn and Soybeans Strengthen the Agricultural Sector

A key factor in this growth has been corn, with a harvest increase of 2.1%, reaching over 301 million tons. This indicates a strengthening of domestic processing and the development of livestock farming in the country. At the same time, soybeans, which have long been a weak link in China’s import structure, also showed positive growth dynamics — up 1.3% compared to last year.

The results of the grain harvest depend on the planting cycles. Autumn grain crops provided the largest increase — 1.5%, while summer crops remained at the previous year’s level, decreasing only by 0.1%. Such stability in an industry that traditionally relies on weather factors demonstrates the effectiveness of modern agricultural technologies in China.

Rice and Wheat Yields: Steady Growth

Rice and wheat remain staple crops for the population of China. The wheat harvest amounted to 140 million tons, nearly matching last year’s figures. Rice production increased to over 209 million tons, showing steady growth. Early rice varieties particularly excelled, with a harvest increase of 1.2%.

“The overall increase of 8.38 million tons compared to the previous year is a strong signal to all players in the grain market. Beijing clearly indicates that they are prepared for any scenarios, and dependence on external suppliers will only decrease.”

The agricultural sector in China continues to demonstrate stable growth, confirming the country’s ability to ensure its own food security and reduce the impact of external factors on the domestic market.
