After a sharp drop in temperatures across most regions of Ukraine, there is a shortage of cucumbers in the market, leading to a record increase in prices for this vegetable. The past week has seen a significant reduction in cucumber harvesting in greenhouse farms, which has impacted the overall supply of the product.

Decreased Harvest and Limited Supply

The cold snap has negatively affected yields in greenhouses, resulting in a decrease in the number of cucumbers available in the market. According to daily monitoring, collection volumes have decreased almost fivefold over the week. As a result, most producers are selling cucumbers primarily in small wholesale quantities and are not forming large batches for sale.

“Due to the limited supply, most farms are not even forming large batches, but are selling the product in small volumes,” analysts noted.

The lack of import competition and increased demand from domestic wholesale buyers and retail chains have further deepened the shortage. Over the past week, prices for Ukrainian cucumbers have risen by 66% and currently range from 65 to 80 UAH per kilogram.

Possible Impact of Imports on the Market

Experts predict that the current situation may prompt importers to ramp up cucumber supplies from abroad in the near future. If import shipments resume, a stabilization or even a decrease in prices for local products is expected due to the lower cost of imported cucumbers.

As of October 2025, the average price of cucumbers in Ukraine exceeds last year’s figure for the same period by 27%. Thus, the cucumber market shortage remains relevant and may influence pricing policies in the coming weeks.
