Cooperative Model for Goat Farming Development Will Enhance the Competitiveness of Small Farms

Ukraine has significant potential to become a key player in the goat product market, particularly in the segment of high-quality goat cheeses. The European market is open to high-quality products, and the industry can grow substantially with the right investments in standards and quality. According to Natalia Yakimenko, Deputy Head of the Public Union “Sheep Breeding and Goat Farming of Ukraine,” it is especially important to work on a proactive strategy for the development of the industry.

“The most important thing is to be proactive by developing breeding, veterinary control, and simplifying the entry of artisanal producers into the market,” she notes.

“The development of small family farms with herds of 50 to 200 milking goats and their consolidation into cooperatives is a promising path for increasing the efficiency of goat farming in Ukraine. This approach helps reduce logistics costs and creates a stable sales channel for milk.”

According to the expert, the implementation of a cooperative model for goat farming will significantly enhance the competitiveness of small family farms. This will allow farmers to achieve a stable income and will also contribute to the development of rural communities and strengthen the local economy.
