Corn and Soybean Planting in the U.S. Nears Completion: Current Data and Forecasts

American farmers have nearly completed the spring planting campaign for corn and soybeans. According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) of the U.S., as of June 8, only 3% of the planned corn acreage remains to be planted. On the same date, corn seedlings have already emerged on 87% of fields, which is in line with the average over the past five years.

Active Soybean Planting and Wheat Harvesting Dynamics
The soybean planting campaign is also nearing completion: 90% of the area has already been sown, exceeding the five-year average for this date (88%).
Meanwhile, the harvest of winter wheat is ongoing across the country. As of June 8, 4% of the area has been harvested, while last year this figure was 11%, and the five-year average is 7%.
Crop Condition Assessment and Yield Forecasts
The quality of winter wheat crops has improved compared to last year: 54% of the area is in good to excellent condition (up from 47% last year), 30% is in fair condition (down from 34% last year), and 16% is in poor to very poor condition (down from 19% respectively).
The condition of spring wheat crops is worse than last year. The share of crops in good to excellent condition stands at 53% (72% a year ago), in fair condition at 38% (25%), and in poor to very poor condition at 9% (3%).
The U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts that in the 2025/2026 season, the total corn harvest will reach 401.8 million tons (up from 377.6 million tons in the previous season), soybeans will be 118.1 million tons (down from 118.8 million tons respectively), and winter and spring wheat combined will be 52.3 million tons (down from 53.6 million tons last year).
