Cotton Cultivation Begins in Mykolaiv Region on Demo Fields

In the Mykolaiv region, demo fields for cotton cultivation have been established for the first time, covering approximately 3,000 hectares. This was reported by the director of the Department of Agricultural Development of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Olena Piskun. She emphasized that this project is the region’s first experience in cultivating this crop.

Initiative and Prospects for Cotton Cultivation
It is noted that the initiative, supported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, was implemented by seven farms in Mykolaiv and Mykolaiv Agrarian University. The introduction of technologies for cotton cultivation is based on the experience gained during an experiment in the Odesa region last year, where technologies were tested, costs calculated, and initial results obtained.
“Last year, an experiment was conducted in the Odesa region. They shared the results, technological maps, and costs. Our farmers responded, and now we have our first demo fields. Cotton is a very promising, highly profitable crop, so we have high hopes for this project,” said Olena Piskun.
According to the official, cotton cultivation opens new opportunities for the region and is expected to become an important direction for the development of agribusiness.
Development of Sown Areas and Other Crops
In addition to the new experimental areas for cotton, the sowing campaign continues in Mykolaiv. Traditionally, most land is allocated for grain and technical crops. At the same time, the popularity of niche crops such as coriander, mustard, and flax is growing. This year, the areas for these crops will triple to 10,000 hectares, indicating the region’s desire to diversify its agricultural programs and expand its agricultural potential.
