Reasons for the Rapid Price Increase
The main factor behind the price rise is the further reduction in the supply of local products due to seasonal characteristics. Despite this, demand in the market remains stable: cucumbers are actively purchased by both wholesale companies and retail chains. At the same time, imported cucumbers are unable to fully compensate for the shortage of domestic products.
Market Situation and Outlook
At the beginning of December, most large greenhouse complexes in Ukraine have already completed the sales of cucumbers for the current turnover. Only a few producers continue to sell small batches, and even those are at significantly higher prices that cannot compete with imports.
“As of today, cucumber prices are the highest they have been in at least the last eight years.”
On average, cucumbers have increased in price by 12% compared to the same period last year. Market experts predict further increases in the cost of this vegetable in the coming weeks.
