Significant Loss of Winter Crops in Some Areas

According to experts, in the central and eastern regions of the area, some farms reported the loss of poorly developed winter wheat plants from autumn, which reached 10-30% of the total amount. The situation was particularly critical in the northwest of the region – during the regrowth of samples, up to 100% plant loss of winter rapeseed and barley was observed.

“No plant losses were detected, but in some farms in the central and eastern regions, the loss of poorly developed winter wheat plants from autumn amounted to 10-30% of the total number. In the northwest, during the regrowth of samples with winter rapeseed and winter barley, up to 100% plant loss was found,” the department noted.

Impact of Weather Conditions on Crop Status

Meteorologists note that warm weather during the decade contributed to the spring awakening of winter crops; however, growth processes did not resume. The average air temperature in the region at the beginning of March exceeded the norm by 2°C, reaching +3..+4°C.

Precipitation was absent in the south and east of the region. In the remaining areas, there were slight rains and wet snow amounting to 0.1-1 mm against a ten-day norm of 12 mm. The wind was predominantly moderate, coming from the northwest, with a maximum speed not exceeding 10-13 m/s.
