Popularity of Potted Plants and Care Features
In many European countries, including Ukraine, growing plants in pots has become a common practice. Decorative flowers, such as petunias, geraniums, fuchsias, lobelias, begonias, and others, are most often grown in these containers. Additionally, various greens and herbs are frequently planted in pots. Vegetable crops are grown at home much less often, but flowers remain the most common among potted plants.
For healthy development and lush blooming, potted plants require regular care. In particular, special fertilizations or so-called “cocktails” play an important role, each of which has its purpose depending on the growth period and type of plant. However, natural fertilizers that promote rapid growth attract the most attention.
Yeast Solution — A Proven Fertilizer
The most effective natural fertilizer for potted plants is considered to be a solution of dry yeast. This remedy has been used for many years to stimulate the growth of petunias, geraniums, fuchsias, begonias, and many other decorative crops. The yeast “cocktail” is also suitable for tomatoes, peppers, and other vegetables grown in pots on balconies or verandas.
“To prepare the cocktail, you will need just 10 g of dry yeast. You probably have it at home, and if not, it can be purchased at any store. You will also need 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 liter of warm water.”
To prepare an effective solution, dissolve 10 g of dry yeast and 2 tablespoons of sugar in 1 liter of warm water and mix thoroughly. The mixture is left to steep for 2–3 hours. Before use, the concentrate is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:5. It is recommended to water the plants with this solution once every 1.5–2 weeks. After just a few such feedings, you can notice enhanced growth and an improvement in the appearance of the pots.
It is noted that yeast fertilizations are suitable not only for houseplants. They are effectively used in greenhouses and open fields, especially in the early stages of plant growth.
