Experts Recommend Buying Borscht Vegetables at Favorable Prices
Currently, the Ukrainian market is experiencing a decrease in the prices of key borscht vegetables — onions, beets, potatoes, and carrots. Farmers are actively selling these products at attractive wholesale prices, which has become possible due to an increase in the number of vegetable producers this year. However, due to a lack of vegetable storage facilities, agrarians are forced to sell their harvest quickly to avoid losses from spoilage.

Advantages of Purchasing Vegetables Directly from Farmers
According to MP and member of the Parliamentary Committee on Agricultural and Land Policy, Dmytro Solomchuk, now is the best time to buy vegetables for the winter, especially for those Ukrainians who have suitable storage conditions. He recommends purchasing onions, beets, potatoes, carrots, and cabbage directly from producers in their regions, as this allows for the best prices and supports local farmers.
“This year, many farmers have taken up vegetable cultivation, so they want to sell their products quickly. Such affordable prices have not been seen in the last month and a half. Therefore, for those Ukrainians who have equipped places for storing vegetables, it would be wise to stock up on onions, red beets, potatoes, carrots, and cabbage. It is preferable to do this directly from farmers in their regions,” the politician noted.
Plans for Building New Vegetable Storage Facilities
The government has planned to invest in the construction of modern vegetable storage facilities next year, which will allow for better storage conditions for the harvest and ensure price stability in the domestic market. Dmytro Solomchuk emphasizes that thanks to modern storage facilities, Ukrainians will be able to purchase domestically produced products at affordable prices in the spring, reducing dependence on imported vegetables that often fall short in quality and price.
“We lack vegetable storage facilities, so we hope that next year the government will launch this program, allowing our agrarians or processors to build storage facilities. With proper preservation, Ukrainians will receive stable prices in the spring for domestically produced products. In recent years, we have had to import products in the spring to fill the market, but they will never be cheaper or of better quality than ours. It’s simply impossible,” emphasized the MP.
Thus, the current situation in the vegetable market creates favorable conditions for purchasing the borscht set at minimal prices. At the same time, investments in vegetable storage facilities are expected to contribute to price stabilization and improve the quality of Ukrainian products in the future.
