The export demand for Ukrainian barley remains limited due to uncompetitive prices amid a stable situation in the domestic market and low buyer activity.

Turkey’s Purchases: Ukrainian Barley Lags Behind Competitors

The Turkish state procurement agency TMO signed contracts on September 30 for the purchase of 255,000 tons of barley at prices ranging from $248.9 to $257.57 per ton CFR, depending on the port of delivery. According to information from Atria Brokers, suppliers included Russia and Romania, while Ukrainian traders proved uncompetitive due to higher price offers.

“Barley was purchased from Russia and Romania, while sellers from Ukraine lost the competitive battle due to high price offers.”

Barley Prices and Export Impact

In the Ukrainian market, export prices for feed barley remain stable at 10,100–10,150 UAH/ton ($210–215 per ton) with delivery to Black Sea ports. At the same time, traders are offering export prices at $228–230 per ton FOB. Considering transportation costs to Turkey, which are about $20 per ton, Ukrainian barley becomes uncompetitive in the Black Sea market. This does not provide grounds to expect an increase in export prices for barley in the near future.

Support for domestic barley prices comes from the rising demand for feed corn and wheat, the prices of which have increased to 9,700–9,800 UAH/ton with delivery to the port. This keeps barley prices from declining, despite the overall decrease in demand.

In September 2025, Ukraine exported 208,000 tons of barley, which corresponds to last year’s figure (205,000 tons in September 2024). From July to September 2025, total exports amounted to 799,000 tons, which is 65% less than the same period last year (1.32 million tons).

The demand for malting barley in Ukraine also remains low. This is related to the capacity utilization of malt factories, as well as the decrease in demand and prices for malt.
