  • On September 4, significant changes occurred in the rapeseed and soybean market: the introduction of export tariffs caused a redistribution of raw materials between domestic processing and external supplies.
  • Export volumes of rapeseed and soybeans have noticeably decreased, while the products of their processing are reaching record levels.
  • Growing soybeans is losing its appeal for Ukrainian farmers.
  • The 2025/26 marketing year could be decisive for Ukraine’s processing industry.

Rapeseed: An Export Season with New Challenges

Traditionally, the period from July to November is the most active for Ukrainian rapeseed producers in terms of exports. During these months, between 2.4 and nearly 2.9 million tons of rapeseed are typically shipped abroad, accounting for 65-95% of the country’s export potential. However, in the 2025/26 marketing year, the situation has changed significantly: in the first five months of the season, rapeseed exports decreased to 1.22 million tons, which is 53% less year-on-year.

By the beginning of December, Ukrainian exporters managed to realize only 58% of the potential volume compared to 84% in the previous season. Among the main reasons for this trend, market participants cite the introduction of export tariffs, which affected the distribution of raw materials and changed the strategic approaches of farmers.

“September 4 changed the rules of the game for the rapeseed and soybean market: the export tariff led to a redistribution of raw materials.”

Soybeans and the Prospects for the Processing Industry

At the same time, the soybean market is also undergoing transformation. Due to the decreasing attractiveness of this crop for farmers and new customs restrictions, exports are declining, while processed products, on the contrary, are reaching new highs. Analysts believe that the next marketing year could be pivotal for the processing industry, as farmers are increasingly focusing on the domestic market and deep processing.
