As of November 10, the volume of Ukrainian barley exports has approached 75 thousand tons, and prices for this cereal crop are showing an upward trend. According to the analytical department of the agricultural cooperative PUSK, which operates within the framework of VAR, the main factor driving the increase in value has been export shipments to Algeria and the Middle East.

Price Dynamics of Ukrainian Barley

Over the past week, barley prices have risen by $2–4, which is equivalent to approximately 100–150 hryvnias per ton. The average conditional price in the domestic market currently reaches 10,600 hryvnias per ton. Analysts note that the market is supported by spot export deals, particularly with countries in the Middle East and Algeria, which have created additional demand for Ukrainian barley.

“Barley is showing positive dynamics — prices increased by $2–4 over the week, or about 100–150 UAH per ton. On average, the conditional price for barley in the domestic market is around 10,600 UAH/t. The market has been supported by spot export sales, particularly to the Middle East and Algeria,” analysts state.

Short-Term Forecasts and Expectations

Demand for barley remains quite high; however, experts believe that the current price increase may not be long-lasting. Traders are mainly interested in supplies until mid-November, and after November 15–20, demand may significantly decrease. As a result, it is possible that the price, which has risen by $5–7 per ton, could quickly return to previous levels. Currently, the market is considered locally overheated, and barley remains a relatively expensive feed grain.

In the coming days, analysts do not rule out a slight further increase in prices. By the end of the current week or the beginning of the next, an additional rise of $1–2 per ton is possible, which could potentially raise the conditional value of barley to 10,800 hryvnias per ton in the domestic market.
