In the agricultural holding “Tekom Agro Group,” during the adaptation to modern challenges, including the state of war and economic changes, they have revised their approaches to land cultivation. They have implemented vertical tillage technology (verti-till), which helps retain moisture, improve soil quality and fertility, and enhance the efficiency of agricultural operations.

Implementation of Technology and Its Economic Impact

This was shared by the head of the agricultural holding, Viktor Bykov. According to him, in the northern part of the Odesa region, which is close to Steppe conditions and experiences frequent droughts, there is a constant shortage of moisture. To reduce the load on the land, farmers have abandoned traditional plowing and the use of plows. This required technical modernization of the machinery and tractor fleet and studying advanced global practices, particularly Canadian technologies, which were adapted to local climatic conditions and soils.

Last year, they purchased three Salford units that combat soil compaction, break up the plow pan, level the field, and create optimal conditions for sowing. This year, they equipped three more units.

“Fuel procurement costs have decreased by nearly $900,000 per year due to the transition to verti-till technology. This became possible because this system utilizes a maximum of 10 tractors for field work, whereas previously more equipment was used, including for spraying and transporting water,” says Viktor Bykov.

Thanks to the new system, the agricultural holding has already achieved significant economic benefits. The reduction in fuel costs and optimization of machinery operations allow for increased profitability of the farms and more efficient resource utilization.

Individual Approach to Technical Support for Farms

Viktor Bykov adds that for each of the four farms of “Tekom Agro Group,” they select optimal complexes of agricultural machinery to ensure timely and high-quality execution of the entire range of field work. This approach allows for increased productivity and reduced costs while simultaneously improving soil conditions and yields.
