Farmers in Rivne Region Increase Planting of Sunflower, Rapeseed, and Early Grains

Farmers in the Rivne region are actively conducting the spring planting campaign, and the region has already entered the top five regions in Ukraine with the fastest rates of sowing early grain crops. As of today, 19.1 thousand hectares have been sown, which is 30% of the planned area, reported the Rivne Regional Military Administration.

“Rivne is among the leaders in the spring planting season. This season will see an increase in the area planted with sunflower by 26%, rapeseed by 14%, and spring grains by 3%. These changes reflect the demand from processing enterprises and exporters,” said OVA head Oleksandr Koval.

In particular, farmers have already sown: barley – 13.3 thousand hectares, oats – 4 thousand hectares, spring wheat – 1 thousand hectares, and peas – 0.8 thousand hectares. Overall, in all categories of farms, the spring planting of agricultural crops is projected to cover an area of 449 thousand hectares, including technical crops, potatoes, vegetables, and fodder crops.

The head of the region also noted that farmers are attracting additional financial resources for the successful conduct of spring field work. Under the state program “Affordable Loans 5-7-9,” agricultural enterprises in the region have already received 262 million UAH.

According to monitoring results, the condition of winter crops is assessed as good and satisfactory, and farmers are currently conducting their fertilization.
