Farmers in Zhytomyr Region Have Completed Pea Sowing, One Third of Wheat Still to Be Sown

The sowing campaign for early spring crops for the 2025 harvest is ongoing in the Zhytomyr region. As of April 10, 2025, a total of 56.9 thousand hectares of early grains and legumes have already been sown across all categories of farms in the region, which accounts for 71% of the planned volume.

Sowing Activities and Crop Conditions

In particular, the following have already been sown:

  • 16.5 thousand hectares of spring wheat, which is 71% of the forecast;
  • 17.2 thousand hectares of spring barley, which constitutes 78%;
  • 19.4 thousand hectares of oats, which equals 62%;
  • 3.8 thousand hectares of peas, which fully meets the sowing plan;
  • and about 1 thousand hectares of potatoes planted by the population.

Additionally, since last autumn, a total of 134.1 thousand hectares of winter grains have been sown across all categories of farms in the region for the 2025 harvest, which is 13.5 thousand hectares more than last year.

Features of Sowing and Condition of Winter Crops

In total, winter crops have been sown as follows:

  • wheat and triticale — 118.4 thousand hectares;
  • barley — 9.2 thousand hectares;
  • rye — 6.4 thousand hectares;
  • rapeseed — 30.1 thousand hectares.

The winter grains are predominantly in good condition, which contributes to the successful conduct of the agricultural campaign.
