Features of the Early Blackcurrant Variety Tisel: Risks and Advantages

The Tisel blackcurrant variety is distinguished by its early flowering, which this season may coincide with late frosts. Volodymyr Tymkiv, the founder of Vimagro from the Ivano-Frankivsk region, emphasizes the potential risks associated with this variety in his article for the magazine “Gardening in Ukrainian.”

The expert notes: “This is exactly what happened in the 2024 season in Ukraine and Poland, when almost the entire harvest was lost. That’s why there was the highest price for early berries then – about 75 UAH/kg from the combine.” To preserve the harvest, it is important to monitor the weather forecast and treat the plants with products that will help protect the flowers before the frost arrives.
Advantages and Disadvantages of the Tisel Variety
According to the specialist, Tisel has the sweetest berries among other varieties, making it ideal for dessert use. The variety also demonstrates high yield and good upright growth, which makes it convenient to harvest with a combine. However, there are also disadvantages: the berries have a soft texture that spoils quickly after harvesting, leading to “leakage” in the boxes. Therefore, it is important to send the harvest for processing directly from the field, avoiding freezing.
Usage in Poland
In Poland, the Tisel variety is mainly used for juice and concentrate production, which indicates its commercial value despite the mentioned drawbacks. This highlights the importance of adapting cultivation and harvesting technologies to ensure the best results.
