Harvest in Chernihiv Region Delayed Due to Prolonged Rains in October
At the “Sonata” farm in the Chernihiv region, this year’s harvest of late crops began at the end of September with sunflower harvesting. However, by October, due to almost daily rains, farmers had to completely halt fieldwork.

Weather Conditions Hamper Harvesting Operations
Even during short periods without precipitation, the progress of the harvest is complicated by the lack of sunny weather and increased grain moisture. Additionally, the rains have turned the fields into difficult terrain for agricultural machinery, preventing the resumption of threshing.
“We managed to thresh about 40% of the total sunflower area. Overall, I am satisfied with both the yield and oil content, but in such weather, the acid number in sunflowers typically increases. Currently, its moisture level is at 25%. As soon as the weather allows and the seeds lose some moisture, we will prioritize finishing the sunflower harvest, as such delays negatively affect its quality. However, I believe there will be no issues with selling this crop this year, as there is a shortage on the market, which in turn drives up the price,” notes the farmer.
High Moisture Delays Corn Harvest
The situation with corn also remains challenging due to excessively high grain moisture. Last year, the farm managed to harvest corn with moisture levels up to 20%, but now this figure has reached 35%. Meanwhile, preliminary estimates indicate a high yield is expected, as the Chernihiv region is currently demonstrating the best corn yield indicators in Ukraine.
