Since the onset of the large-scale war in Ukraine, a de facto ban on hunting has been established. This situation has led to a significant increase in the population of wild animals, particularly wild boars, deer, and hares. Farmers have felt the sharp rise in populations, as wild animals increasingly destroy crops, causing substantial damage to agricultural enterprises.

The Impact of the Hunting Ban on the Agricultural Sector

The actual absence of regulation on wild animal populations has resulted in farmers facing new challenges in preserving their harvests. The increase in the population of wild boars and roe deer places additional strain on fields, especially in areas where natural feed resources are limited. Farmers report that animals are destroying young crops of corn, sunflowers, grains, and other agricultural plants.

Measures to Preserve the Harvest

In the current conditions, farmers are forced to seek alternative ways to protect their fields. Among the main measures are the installation of electric or regular fences, the use of deterrents, and organizing patrols in the fields during peak wild animal activity. Some farms are considering the possibility of engaging specialized services for monitoring and controlling the situation.

“Due to the hunting ban, the number of wild animals has increased several times, and now they are migrating en masse in search of food, causing damage to crops. We are forced to look for new approaches to protect our harvest,” farmers note.

Agricultural sector experts emphasize the need to develop effective mechanisms for regulating wild animal populations to avoid even greater crop losses in the future. For now, farmers are hoping for support from local authorities and are implementing their own safety measures to preserve agricultural crops.
