Garlic is not only a traditional garden crop but also a plant that can be easily grown in apartment conditions. One of the most effective methods is using plastic bottles instead of conventional pots or garden beds.

Preparing Materials and Sprouting

First, you need to select garlic heads — they should be large, fresh, and not too dry. The cloves need to be prepared for sprouting: carefully trim the top part of each clove with scissors or a sterile knife. This will promote the quicker emergence of green shoots.

Fill the plastic bottle with water, then place the garlic cloves in it with the roots down and the cut side up. It is important that the water only touches the bottom part of the head. The container should be placed on a windowsill or in another well-lit area with access to sunlight.

Care and Further Steps

In the first few days after planting, you should closely monitor the development of the roots. If the water in the bottle starts to darken or becomes cloudy, it should be replaced with clean water. Over time, when the roots fully occupy the space in the bottle and the green shoots grow, they can be cut and used in cooking.

If the goal is to obtain seedlings for planting in open ground, after the roots and shoots have formed, the garlic should be transplanted into a pot with nutrient-rich substrate, maintaining distance between the plants. Watering should be regular, but avoid overwatering. Garlic grows best in soil rich in organic matter, under conditions of sufficient sunlight for at least six hours a day. Ensure that the substrate remains moist, does not dry out, but is not too wet to avoid rotting.
