Growing Green Onions Indoors

You can use either seeds or small young bulbs to grow green onions indoors. If you choose seeds, sow them on the surface of moist soil and lightly cover them. At the initial stage, the soil should be kept consistently moist with light spraying to encourage rooting. Germination may take some time, so it’s important to remain patient.

The optimal temperature for seed germination is around 24°C. To maintain stable warmth, you can use heating mats or warm surfaces, but be sure to monitor the temperature and use an insulating barrier if necessary.

Caring for Green Onions on Your Windowsill

The most important factor for growing green onions indoors is sufficient light. For active growth, the plants need 6 to 8 hours of bright light each day. South or west-facing windowsills are ideal, or you can use additional lighting with grow lamps.
