How Prices for Borscht Vegetables Changed in June 2025

In June 2025, the prices of the main vegetables traditionally used by Ukrainians to prepare borscht underwent significant changes. Some products became more affordable, while others, on the contrary, became more expensive.

Price Dynamics of Cabbage and Potatoes

Young cabbage significantly decreased in price in June, dropping from 65.17 hryvnias in May to 23.85 hryvnias per kilogram. This was good news for consumers. At the same time, white cabbage showed the opposite trend – its price rose from 71.91 to 113.40 hryvnias per kilogram.

Potatoes of various varieties exhibited mixed dynamics. Regular potatoes slightly decreased in price, from 34.75 hryvnias in May to 34.40 hryvnias per kilogram in June. Young potatoes became significantly cheaper, costing 53.00 hryvnias compared to 89.15 hryvnias in the previous month.

Changes in the Prices of Onions, Carrots, and Beets

Onion prices also fluctuated significantly. Bulb onions increased in price from 32.94 hryvnias to 46.20 hryvnias per kilogram. Young bulb onions, on the other hand, became cheaper – 34.90 hryvnias compared to 47.25 hryvnias in May. Blue onions also decreased in price from 77.28 to 58.05 hryvnias per kilogram.

Carrots rose in price in June to 63.50 hryvnias per kilogram compared to 54.89 hryvnias in May. However, young carrots became cheaper – from 92.18 to 67.00 hryvnias per kilogram.

Table beets increased in price from 45.25 to 53.85 hryvnias per kilogram. At the same time, young beets became cheaper – 60.60 hryvnias compared to 83.05 hryvnias per kilogram in May.

The basic vegetables that Ukrainians buy year-round for traditional dishes saw noticeable price changes in June. Prices for borscht vegetables became both higher and lower.
