Choosing Seedlings and Preparing the Soil
With the onset of autumn, winter crops are actively planted in garden plots, among which strawberries hold an important place. Unlike garlic and onions, planting strawberries requires special attention to details that affect yield over the next 3–4 years.
There are two main planting periods for strawberries: early (late August – early September) and late (October – November). The key difference lies in the preparation of seedlings. For late planting, it is recommended to choose seedlings with a closed root system – in cups or trays. It is important to inspect the leaves: they should be green, and each bush should have at least three leaves.
“Late in autumn, it is better to choose strawberry seedlings in cups or trays, that is, with a closed root system. Attention should also be paid to the leaves – they should be green and there should be at least 3 on each bush.”
The soil for strawberries also requires careful preparation. Before planting, it is advisable to add some well-rotted cow manure and about 50 g of superphosphate per square meter of the bed. This will ensure optimal development of the plants’ root systems.
Planting Technology and Care for the Seedlings
After preparing the soil, it is necessary to determine the spots for planting strawberries, maintaining a distance of at least 20 cm between bushes. No additional fertilizers should be added to each hole.
Particular attention should be paid to watering. After planting, the bushes should be watered with a rooting stimulant, such as Radiophorm. For this, 25 g of the product should be dissolved in 10 liters of water. This approach promotes rapid rooting of the plants and better prepares them for winter.
Following these recommendations will help achieve healthy and strong strawberry bushes that will delight you with a good harvest in the next season.
