LLC “Agricultural Company 2004,” one of the leading horticultural enterprises in Ukraine, located in the Khmelnytsky region and part of the Vitagro holding, is planting an additional 3 hectares of cherries of the Koridia and Regina varieties this spring season. Thus, the total area of this crop will reach 10 hectares.

Oleksandr Baran, a horticultural agronomist at LLC “Agricultural Company 2004,” noted in an interview with the magazine “Horticulture in Ukrainian”:

“This is the first replanting of ‘stone fruits’ since 2014-2015, and after 10 years, we want to try intensive cherry planting.”

The planting scheme for cherries has been developed considering a row width of 4 meters and a distance of 1 meter between trees. This is necessary for the installation of Italian hail protection nets, which provide protection from rain.

In addition to cherries, the farm also grows other stone fruit crops, including cherries and plums of the Chachakskaya Lepotika, Stanley, and President varieties. Oleksandr Baran added that this year, prices for plums are higher, but overall, there are no significant changes in the market for these fruits. He emphasized:

“As an economic component of our farm, it means very little. Peaches and apricots remain risky crops for our area for now.”

According to recent trends, Europe is also focusing on growing new varieties of cherries that are smaller in size and have improved shelf life.
