The horticultural enterprise PP “Agrarian Company 2004,” located in the Khmelnytskyi region and part of the Vitagro holding, is actively considering the implementation of irrigation systems. This decision is prompted by changes in the pricing policy of suppliers, as well as the need to protect plantations from frost and heat.

Oleksandr Baran, an agronomist from the company, shared his thoughts with the magazine “Horticulture in Ukrainian”:

“For now, we can only afford this on small areas,” he clarified. “But this direction will become increasingly relevant for both horticulture and other sectors of agriculture, as drought is becoming more severe, and a drop of water only saturates the roots, while there is no humidity in the air at all.”

According to the agronomist, the introduction of irrigation systems will be a priority in the coming years, although the cost of such equipment is 1.5 to 2 times higher than that of drip irrigation and requires significantly more water. According to recent reports, the apricot harvest is also at risk due to frost.
