The 2024/25 season has proven to be unsuccessful for Ukraine’s oil industry, as processing enterprises are facing losses of between $10 and $30 per ton of sunflower. In light of this, before starting the construction of new processing plants, it is advisable to weigh all risks and possibly suspend the implementation of new projects.

Situation in the Soy Market

Stephan Kapshuk, the CEO of the Ukroliyaprom association, noted that the situation with soy in Ukraine is better, as there are sufficient capacities for its processing. This means that all produced products can be processed by domestic enterprises. However, the question arises of what to do with soybean meal, as the domestic market does not consume it in such volumes.

Export Challenges

Stephan Kapshuk also pointed out that the export of soybean meal is problematic. For example, Turkey is likely to prefer importing soy and handling its processing itself. As for Egypt, which previously imported about 1 million tons of soybean meal, it is currently considering switching to American products. To date, the most significant buyer of Ukrainian soybean meal is Poland, which is also aiming to reduce raw material imports.
