This year’s sowing campaign is lagging behind last year by 200 thousand hectares due to the cold weather. However, this is not critical, as farmers plan to work around the clock starting next week.

This is reported by AgroReview

This was stated by Taras Vysotsky, the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, during a television broadcast. He noted:

“The April cold snap has affected the sowing process – it has effectively come to a halt for a week. Compared to last year, 200 thousand hectares less have been sown so far. But in our scale, with over 13 million hectares planned to be sown with all crops, such a delay is not critical and will not significantly impact the campaign, which is resuming and will continue around the clock.”

At the same time, due to low temperatures, fruit growing, particularly early stone fruits like apricots and peaches, is at risk. The impact of the cold on these crops can only be assessed in a few weeks.

Vysotsky also emphasized that

“as for grain and oilseed production, as of today, there are no critical consequences from this weather, as the growing season for the vast majority of these crops has not yet occurred. Therefore, speaking about food security, there is currently no threat to the production of grains, oilseeds, and consequently, flour, bread, or livestock products.”
