In the fourth quarter of last year, there was a shift in leadership among importers in the Polish apple concentrate market. Moldova took the top spot, surpassing Ukraine and Uzbekistan in the volume of this product supplied.

Moldova Increases Exports Amid Declining Imports by Poland

According to Polish customs statistics, during the specified period, Moldovan producers shipped about 8,000 tons of apple concentrate to Poland. This accounts for nearly half of all imports of this product into the country, indicating a significant increase in Moldova’s share of the Polish market.

Experts emphasize that this growth in the share of Moldovan products occurred against the backdrop of a general decline in demand for apple concentrate in Poland. This was aided by a good apple harvest in Poland itself, as well as a trend towards lower prices for concentrate, which influenced traders’ purchasing decisions.

Moldova Reorients Exports Due to Loss of the Russian Market

Despite the overall decline in import volumes, Polish buyers still prefer Moldovan concentrate, noting its quality and competitiveness compared to other supplying countries.

“The activation of exports to Europe is largely related to the forced reorientation of supplies from the Russian market, which does not always ensure higher profitability.”

Moldovan processors assess their leadership in the new market cautiously, emphasizing that changes in export geography are driven not only by demand but also by the necessity to find alternative markets after losing traditional sales channels.
