This year’s table grape harvest in Moldova could be the best in the last five years. The vineyards successfully survived the spring frosts, and favorable weather conditions create optimistic forecasts for the upcoming harvest.

“May rains significantly replenished soil moisture reserves,” noted Gaberi. “Despite forecasts of severe drought, high temperatures above 30 degrees are only expected from July.”

Favorable Conditions for All Types of Vineyards

According to the head of the Association of Grape Producers and Exporters, George Gaberi, the main grape plantations managed to avoid the impact of three waves of frosts observed in April and May. Currently, the condition of the vineyards is assessed as good to very good.

The expert emphasizes that favorable weather conditions positively affect not only intensive plantations such as “pergola” and “gable,” which have irrigation systems, but also traditional vineyards that rely solely on natural precipitation.

Export Potential of Moldovan Grapes

In the last five years, a good harvest indicator for table grapes in Moldova is considered to be around 100 thousand tons. Last year, despite lower yields and variable product quality, the country exported approximately 67 thousand tons of table grapes. Additionally, for the first time in history, about 1.7 thousand tons of technical grapes were exported.
