Last week, Ukraine saw a significant increase in prices for new crop barley. The main reason for this trend was the high interest from traders and processing enterprises, as well as the limited supply of grain from agricultural producers, who are currently holding back from mass sales in hopes of obtaining better conditions.

Harvesting in Key Regions and Yield

Barley harvesting is currently actively ongoing in the southern and central regions of the country. In particular, the main regions where harvesting is taking place include Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. On average, the yield of the crop is 2.7 tons per hectare, which meets the expectations of farmers for the current season.

Price Dynamics and Influencing Factors

As of last week, the demand for new crop barley in Ukraine increased, contributing to a rise in purchase prices by 200-400 UAH/ton. The price of this crop ranges from 8,200 to 9,000 UAH per ton on a CPT (delivered to the elevator) basis. The main factor driving up prices has been the insufficient supply from farmers, who are not in a hurry to sell their harvest, waiting for further price increases.

“Active demand from traders and processors, along with insufficiently active supply from farmers, has supported prices. They are not rushing to sell their harvest, expecting better prices.”

Thus, the situation in the barley market remains tense, and the supply shortage from producers may continue to support high price levels in July 2025.
