Creation of a Modern Nursery and Its Features
The project was initiated under the leadership of Oleksandr Slastin, who relocated to the Malyn community from Kharkiv after the full-scale invasion by Russia. According to the press service of the public organization Ukrainian Green Power, the new enterprise already has over a million certified seedlings that meet Ukrainian and European standards.
The structure of the farm includes mother plantations covering an area of 5 hectares and over 100 hectares of leased land for berry cultivation. In the future, there are plans to expand the assortment, including licensed varieties, collaboration with European breeders, and the development of greenhouse production and cassette seedlings.
“The enterprise has already received a state grant, which will allow for the construction of a tunnel greenhouse covering 1.6 hectares,” the association noted.
Quality Guarantee and Expert Support
The uniqueness of this nursery lies in the fact that it is the only official supporter of the strawberry varieties Polka, Honey, and Zenga Zengana in Ukraine. This ensures genetic purity and high quality of planting material. Cultivation is carried out with strict adherence to phytosanitary standards: the soil is disinfected, and modern technologies for irrigation, sorting, storage, and packaging of seedlings are applied. Additionally, the enterprise consults with international experts, including an agronomist from the United Kingdom.
“We strive to create a modern infrastructure to provide the Ukrainian market with high-quality certified seedlings. The development of nurseries is not only a strategy for preserving varietal potential but also a real alternative to imports,” emphasizes the director of the enterprise, Oleksandr Slastin.
The nursery has already received orders from Ukrainian farmers and European partners. In particular, the Greek company Berryplasma has increased its contract volumes fivefold in 2025. Active export of certified Ukrainian seedlings abroad is planned, which will contribute to the development of the country’s horticultural industry.
