Onion Prices in Ukraine Begin to Rise Due to Seasonal Shortage

For the first time this year, Ukrainian producers have significantly raised prices for onions, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. This trend is attributed to the depletion of stocks in farms and an increase in purchasing activity among wholesale companies.

According to daily monitoring, farmers in Ukraine are currently willing to sell onions at prices ranging from 14 to 20 hryvnias per kilogram (approximately $0.34-0.49/kg), which is on average 55% higher than a week ago. This indicates a substantial price increase occurring against the backdrop of high demand for this product.
Reasons and Prospects for Rising Onion Prices in Ukraine
Despite the price increase, demand for onions is growing daily due to a sharp shortage of quality products. Most farms have already sold off their stocks, and those who still have a harvest are currently holding back on sales, contributing to the formation of a frenzy and further price increases.
According to experts, the average price of onions in Ukraine is already 59% higher than last year’s level. They predict that this positive price trend will continue until the mass arrival of the new harvest, which could halt the current trend.
