Ukraine is experiencing a sharp increase in onion prices, the first such rise since the beginning of 2025. According to the analytical project EastFruit, this price increase is due to seasonal depletion of stocks in farms and rising demand from wholesalers. According to daily monitoring, as of mid-April, farmers are offering onions at prices ranging from 14 to 20 UAH/kg, which is approximately $0.34–0.49/kg. This is 55% higher compared to the end of last week.

Reasons for Price Increase and Market Expectations

Despite the price increase, the demand for quality onions in the country continues to grow. Most farms have already completely sold out their stocks, and those who still have leftovers have halted their sales. This contributes to even greater price demand among buyers. Analysts estimate that current onion prices in Ukraine are 59% higher than last year’s levels. Experts predict that the upward price trend will continue at least until the beginning of the mass harvest of the new season, which may affect the market situation and price stability in the coming months.
