Global Market and the Impact of China-Canada Negotiations
On the global markets, participants closely monitored the outcomes of negotiations between China and Canada. According to preliminary information, the parties reached agreements in the field of trade: it is expected that by March 1 of this year, the import duty on Canadian canola will be reduced to 15%. A temporary suspension of duties on the import of certain types of agricultural products, including rapeseed meal, has also been planned. In return, China will be allowed to import 49,000 electric vehicles at a duty rate of approximately 6%.
“This could improve the market conditions for Canadian canola; however, the seasonal saturation of the global market with this crop may partially offset this fact.”
At the same time, experts note that the seasonal oversupply of rapeseed on the global market may limit the positive impact of these agreements on prices.
Price Dynamics in the Domestic Market of Ukraine
In the Ukrainian domestic market for rapeseed, there has been a significant increase in purchase prices. The main reason for this is attributed to the depreciation of the hryvnia against the US dollar. The largest price increases have been recorded from exporting companies: prices reached 22,600–23,700 UAH per ton on EXW terms. Thus, the domestic market is responding to currency fluctuations and changes in export conditions, creating additional incentives for agricultural producers.
