In 2025, Polish farmers achieved the highest potato yield in recent years, marking a significant accomplishment after two seasons of setbacks.

Yields Exceeded Average Levels

As noted by Bugaj board member Lukasz Ostrowicz, this year’s potato production in Poland surpassed previous figures and even the average over the last five years. The main reasons for this result were favorable weather conditions: moderate summer temperatures and adequate rainfall. This positively impacted the quality of the tubers at the beginning of the harvest.

“In the last two seasons, we had quite poor yields, but this year the yield significantly exceeds the five-year average. Favorable rainfall and moderate summer temperatures contributed to the high quality of the harvest. At the start of the season, the quality was very good, but in recent weeks we began to notice some quality issues,” said the specialist.

Production Volumes and Challenges for the Industry

According to Ostrowicz, the actual volumes of potato production may even be higher than official estimates. Currently, it is believed that Poland harvested approximately 6.8 million tons of potatoes, which is 17% more than last year. Meanwhile, some producers achieved yields of 60–70 tons per hectare, which could push the total harvest beyond 7.5 million tons.

However, the increase in yield comes with certain challenges. High collection rates increase the risk of tuber damage, soil contamination, and pathogen infiltration. This negatively affects the appearance of the potatoes and leads to greater losses during storage.
