Polish rapeseed processing companies are facing a shortage of raw materials due to the embargo on rapeseed imports from Ukraine. According to Adam Stępień, the director general of the Polish Association of Oil Producers, this decision lacks economic justification and negatively impacts the local industry.

Position of Polish Processors on Rapeseed Imports

Adam Stępień emphasized that the Polish processing sector requires additional volumes of rapeseed that Ukraine could supply. He noted that substituting Polish raw materials with Ukrainian ones poses no risks to the market. Furthermore, according to the expert, the impact of imports on price levels is minimal.

“The price, regardless of how the market is regulated, is a European price determined by the situation in the European Union at the MATIF exchange. Therefore, we do not see any impact on rapeseed prices that one might theoretically expect,” the expert explained.

Potential Risks and Future Prospects

Stępień also pointed out the risks that could arise if Ukraine imposes import duties on crops such as soybeans and rapeseed. In his opinion, such a move could complicate cooperation between countries and affect the supply of protein feeds, which are also in short supply in Poland. The expert believes that creating added value in the agricultural sector should primarily occur at the local level, which would promote the development of domestic processing and improve feed supply for livestock.

At the same time, Adam Stępień does not rule out a potential deterioration in the quality of raw materials for processing in the near future, which could affect the efficiency of processing enterprises.
