Record Import Figures for the Last Four Years

According to Yevhen Kuzin, a market analyst for fruits and vegetables at the EastFruit project, from July 2024 to March 2025, Ukraine imported 83 thousand tons of food potatoes. This sets a record for the last four seasons and is one of the highest figures in history.

As the expert noted, “

this is a record figure for the last four seasons and indeed one of the highest in history,” he stated. “Ukraine imported more potatoes only in the 2019/20 seasons (from the Russian and Belarusian markets) and 2020/21 (from the European Union). Currently, potatoes are being imported either from EU countries (2024 harvest) or from Egypt (new harvest)”

.

Price Trends for Potatoes and Other Vegetables

Throughout the season, there were increases in potato prices, which occurred after a brief period of stability. However, from the end of March to the beginning of April, prices began to decrease. At the same time, in those same months, prices for other vegetables in the borscht set, as well as greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes produced in Ukraine, were also at record levels.

These trends indicate a change in the situation in the food market, and the increase in potato imports may reflect domestic needs for price stabilization and ensuring sufficient supplies.
