Potato Prices Expected to Reach 28–30 UAH/kg in Autumn 2025, Says Farmer

In Chernihiv region, the potato planting season is underway, covering about 64 thousand hectares this year. This is less than in pre-war years, but farmers are optimistic about the harvest. According to Oleksandr Nikolaev, director of the farming enterprise “Ros-2008”, his farm plans to plant about 30 hectares of potatoes. He noted that the farm stores seed potatoes in special facilities and uses several popular varieties, such as Paradiza, Red Scarlett, and Sagita.

In his estimates, last year’s harvest was quite successful, and he expects this year’s results to be no worse. The farmer mentioned that there are no issues with product sales: potatoes are supplied to schools, boarding houses, and orders are received from Cherkasy, Odesa, and Kyiv. Regarding the price situation, Nikolaev predicted that prices in autumn would fluctuate between 28–30 hryvnias per kilogram, which aligns with last year’s figures.

Expectations for Potato Production and Prices in 2025

The director of the regional department of agro-industrial development, Oleg Krapivny, reported that potato production is expected to rise to 1.025–1.03 million tons in 2025. This reduces the likelihood of a sharp drop in product prices in the domestic market.

Overall, experts predict price stability and a high level of production, which will help meet domestic demand and maintain market stability.
