In February 2026, weather conditions in key agricultural regions around the world remain a focal point for traders. Particular interest is drawn to the situation in Argentina, where drought at the beginning of the year led to a decrease in the potential yield of soybeans and corn. However, recent rainfall has significantly improved crop conditions, while in Brazil, farmers continue to operate under favorable conditions.

Argentina and Brazil: The Impact of Rainfall on Yields

Last week, significant rainfall occurred in Argentina, reaching even the driest regions. On Wednesday, a front brought heavy rains, and a new wave of storms on Friday shifted north, providing additional moisture for the fields. Forecasts indicate several more waves of rain in the coming days, which could further enhance conditions for growing crops. According to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, as of February 6, sunflowers have been harvested on 27.9% of the area, and the average yield has increased to 2.28 t/ha, which is 0.1 t/ha more than last year. As a result, the sunflower yield forecast has been raised by 400,000 tons to 6.2 million tons, thanks to record acreage of 2.7 million hectares in the last decade.

In Brazil, heavy rains continue across the country. This supports the development of late soybean plantings and the sowing of second-crop corn. Soybean harvesting has already been completed on 14-16% of the area, and in the state of Mato Grosso, it has reached 35%, allowing for timely corn planting. Periodic rainfall is expected throughout the week, which, despite potential delays in soybean harvesting, will improve soil moisture.

Weather Trends in the USA, Europe, Ukraine, and Australia

In the USA, following a recent wave of frosts in the Midwest and Plains regions, a significant rise in temperatures is expected, accompanied by strong storms and rain. The amount of precipitation in the Central and Southern Plains states is particularly important, where large areas remain dry. Adequate soil moisture will be crucial for preparing for spring wheat planting.

European farmers are also observing favorable conditions: a warm winter with frequent rains provides positive conditions for the wintering of winter crops and moisture accumulation. This year, favorable weather has even spread to the southern regions of the continent and reached North Africa.

In Ukraine, strong frosts were observed last week, which will continue into the early part of this week. This may negatively affect winter crops with insufficient snow cover. However, a sharp warming is forecasted from Thursday, which will aid in snowmelt and replenish soil moisture reserves.

“In Argentina, on Wednesday, a front brought heavy rainfall to some of the driest areas, and on Friday, a new front moving north provided additional precipitation. Several waves of storms are expected this week, which could improve crop conditions.”

In Australia, despite isolated rains, generally dry conditions persist for cotton and sorghum cultivation. Local rains are forecasted over the weekend in New South Wales, and next week, new precipitation is possible in the eastern part of the country due to tropical cyclone 20S. However, the prolonged drought requires significant rainfall to improve the situation, and crop conditions remain unsatisfactory.
