Prices for Early White Cabbage in Ukraine Have Decreased Due to Excess Supply

In Ukraine, there has been a significant decrease in the price of early white cabbage. Recently, the market has been experiencing a trend of falling prices, which is associated with an increase in the supply of new crop vegetables and low demand among consumers.

Main Reasons for the Price Drop

According to analysts, producers are forced to adjust prices downward due to the mass arrival of domestic new crop cabbage. As of May 15, 2025, the price for this vegetable ranges from 30 to 40 UAH/kg (0.72 to 0.96 USD per kilogram), which is on average 37% lower than what was recorded at the end of the previous week.

“First and foremost, farmers are compelled to actively lower prices for their products due to the excessive supply in the market: most Ukrainian farms have already begun mass shipments of early cabbage. The situation is further exacerbated by quite low sales rates in this segment. Wholesale companies and retail chains prefer to make purchases in small batches due to the short shelf life of this vegetable,” analysts note.

Comparison with Last Year

Despite the noticeable price drop this season, the new crop cabbage remains nearly 2.8 times more expensive than during the same period last year. Experts explain this difference by unfavorable weather conditions in the spring, particularly prolonged cold spells, which delayed the ripening of vegetables and affected their prices.
